Frank C. Koranda, M.D., M.B.A.

Chicago native, Dr. Frank Koranda, is married to Diane, who shares his commitment to providing surgical care to people in countries who would not otherwise have access to it. Dr. Koranda serves as a medical director of a world outreach program and spends four to six weeks a year serving the program. He is one of ten people in the world with a double specialty in dermatology and otolaryngology (ENT) - head and neck surgery. Dr. Koranda is also experienced in the Mohs micrographic surgery method for the targeted removal of skin cancer. He trained at the University of Wisconsin with Dr. Fredric Mohs, the originator. Dr. Koranda served in the U.S. Air Force, both here and overseas, as a flight surgeon, and has received the Command Outstanding Flight Surgeon Award on two occasions. He has been commander of three units and a state air surgeon, and holds the rank of colonel.

  • Practice also includes the treatment of skin cancer and melanoma, laser surgery, and nasal, sinus and thyroid problems.

Colleen M. Reisz, M.D.

Dr. Colleen Reisz has been in practice since 1994. She and her husband, Dr. George Reisz, live in Prairie Village with their twin sons, Peter and Samuel. Her husband is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and specializes in pulmonary medicine and critical care. Dr. Colleen Reisz has been past president of the Kansas City Dermatology Society and the Kansas State Dermatology Society. She has been a member of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology since 1994.

Deborah Ohlhausen, M.D.

Dr. Deborah Ohlhausen joined our staff in 1999. Upon completion of her training, Dr. Ohlhausen and her husband, Dr. Ward Ohlhausen, moved to his hometown, Kansas City. They currently live in Liberty, Missouri with their two sons. Her Husband practices OB-Gyn with Northland Obstetrics and Gynecology. All of the Ohlhausens enjoy tennis, snow skiing and traveling together. Dr. O is involved with the Liberty Giving Circle women's philanthropic group, which she helped found in 2006. She also serves on the Liberty School District Foundation Board of Directors.

Christopher Rouse, M.D.

Dr. Chris Rouse joined our staff in July of 2008. He was born and raised in the Kansas City Northland, and, following his medical training, he returned to the area to live near his family. Dr. Rouse is married and currently has one child. He enjoys spending his free time with his family.

Clinical Interests:

Treatment of chronic skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Because Dr. Rouse has battled chronic skin disease most of his life, he can often relate more closely with his patients' skin issues.

Office: Dr. Rouse is available 5 days a week at the North Office.

Joseph Brant Schneider, D.O.

Dr. Schneider was born and raised in Overland Park, KS. He has trained at some of the country's leading medical institutions in Missouri, Florida, and Michigan, but family and his love of Kansas City brought him back to the area to begin his practice. He joined our staff in August, 2008. Dr. Schneider enjoys exercise, projects around the house, and spending time with his wife and three children. He is trained in a wide variety of dermatological areas including general, cosmetics, and surgical dermatology.

Clinical Interests:

Dr. Schneider has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer.

Office:

Dr. Schneider sees patients at the North office on Mondays from 9:00 - 4:30 and is available at the South office, Tues - Fri from 9:00 - 5:00pm. He performs skin cancer surgery at the Briarcliff surgery center and at the South office on Thursday and Friday mornings.

Lisa Orrick, P.A.-C

Lisa Orrick has practiced as a dermatology PA with Midwest Medical Specialists' Shawnee Mission office since 2004. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, Kansas Academy of Physician Assistants, and Kansas City Dermatological Society. Outside of work, Lisa enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons as well as reading, sewing, gourmet cooking, watching reality TV shows, the Food Network and KU basketball.

Special Training:

  • Qualified to diagnose and treat common dermatological conditions, perform biopsies, cryosurgery, and minor surgical procedures.
  • Trained in dermatological surgery (Mohs), surgical assisting, suturing, flaps and skin grafts, working under the direct supervision and training of Dr. Frank C. Koranda.

Office: Lisa sees patients at the South office, Monday through Friday, from 9am - 5pm.

NOTE: A physician assistant is a health care professional trained in an intensive education program. PA's are licensed by the state or credentialed by a federal employer to practice medicine with the supervision of a physician. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, PA's perform physical exams, diagnose conditions and illnesses, develop and carry out treatment plans, order and interpret lab tests, suture, assist in surgery, provide patient education, counsel on preventive health care and can prescribe medications in virtually all states. Supervising physicians work closely with their PA's to determine which patients and conditions they want them to treat. Close consultation between the physician, PA, and patient is utilized for unusual or hard to manage patients. To remain nationally certified, PA's must complete 100 hours of continuing medical education every 2 years and must pass a national recertification examination every 6 years.

Kristin Bowen, P.A.-C

Kristin Bowen joined Midwest Medical Specialists in April 2007. She is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, and the Kansas City Dermatological Society. Kristin has also earned the title of Diplomate from the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants through a distance learning initiative program. In her free time, Kristin enjoys spending time with her niece and nephew, exercising, and traveling to warm sunny places (wearing sunscreen, of course).

  • Double licensed to practice in Missouri & Kansas
Clinical Interests:
  • Performing comprehensive skin exams, diagnosing skin disorders, ordering/interpreting lab tests, counseling patients on preventive care, and surgical treatment of benign and cancerous lesions.
  • Skilled in performing shave and punch biopsies, excisions and cryotherapy, under the supervision of both Dr. Frank Koranda and Dr. Colleen Reisz.

Audrey Small, Board Certified Aesthetician
Audrey Small

Audrey is a native of Kansas. She currently lives in Gardner, Kansas and enjoys spending time with her two children, husband, family and friends. Audrey has worked with Midwest Medical Specialists since 1997 in a variety of positions. In 2001, Audrey began working with the Skin Renewal Division, where she enjoys interacting with patients and helping them solve their skin issues.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Emporia State University
Special Training and Interests:

Audrey's focus is on the treatment and repair of sun damaged skin with IPL, performing chemical peels and microdermabrasion for acne, and waxing and tinting eyebrows. She is also skilled at devising appropriate skin care regimens for different skin types.

Office:

Audrey treats Skin Renewal clients at the South office on: Mon, Tue, Wed & Fri from 8:30am - 4:30pm. On designated Saturdays, Audrey also treats acne clients at Clear Skin Spa at the North office. CSS North accepts walk-ins from 9-11am and appointments from 11 - 2:30pm.

Carla Abbott, Board Certified Aesthetician
Carla Abbott

Carla was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She is dual-licensed to practice in both Kansas and Missouri. In her free time, Carla likes watching movies, reading, cooking, and eating different types of cuisine.

Carla treats Skin Renewal clients at both offices as follows: South - Mon, Thu & Fri from 9am to 5pm. North - Tue & Wed from 9am to 5pm. Paula Mills, Board Certified Aesthetician
Paula Mills

As a mature and experienced nurse and aesthetician, Paula has enjoyed a long reign in nursing, and is the newest aesthetician with Midwest Medical Specialists. She is dedicated to treating acne, and to achieving optimum results by devising personalized progressive programs combining products and treatments. After raising her own two sons, Paula enjoys focusing on her two grandsons, both the lights of her life. She enjoys traveling with her husband in her spare time.

Paula received the Donna Hawk Award of Excellence in 2003 in recognition of her outstanding achievement in aesthetics.

Avon C. Coffman, D.O.

Dr. Avon (Curt) Coffman joined Midwest Medical Specialists in July,1995, when he merged his medical practice with Dr. Frank Koranda's practice. Dr. Coffman recently retired from the Kansas Army National Guard, with the rank of Colonel. He served as the commander of the medical unit for the Kansas Army National Guard, and then moved to the position of the State Surgeon for the state of Kansas, until his retirement. Dr. Coffman served two tours in Iraq, in three separate combat support hospitals, during his tenure with the Kansas Army National Guard.

  • Residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington D.C.

Eric C. Christensen, M.D.

Dr. Christensen joined Midwest Medical Specialists in July of 1995. He grew up in Concordia, Kansas, where he spent his summer months working on a farm. While studying at Kansas State, he was awarded a foreign language scholarship, allowing him the opportunity to study at the Justus-Liebig University in Geissen, Germany. He has traveled extensively in Europe, and still maintains correspondence with acquaintances he made during year of studies overseas.

Jennifer Schumacher, Audiologist, AuD

Dr. Schumacher joined Midwest Medical Specialists in December of 1992. She grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas and Sedalia, Mo. Kansas City is as far north as she's going! Dr. Schumacher is married with two young children, Nicholas and Natalie; and has two dogs, Marley and Maddy.

Clinical Interests:
  • New trends and technology in hearing aids, as well as working with and evaluating patients with balance disorders.

Office: Dr. Schumacher sees patients at the North office five days a week. She welcomes new patients.

Erika Ward, Audiologist, AuD

Dr. Ward joined Midwest Medical Specialists in May of 2004. She was born and raised in the Kansas City area. Dr. Ward likes to spend her free time cooking, traveling and spending time with her family.

Clinical Interests:
  • Diagnostic testing for hearing and balance disorders as well as hearing aid selection, fitting and counseling.

Office: Dr. Ward sees patients at both the North Oak and Shawnee Mission offices. She is currently accepting new patients.

Administrative Staff

Sandi Clemmons, Midwest Medical Specialists, P. A.

Sandi, the administrator for MMS, was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She joined MMS in 1990 and has experienced coordinating all facets of a medical practice, including the hiring of physicians.

Sandi's interests lean towards business and she has worn many hats. Her business experience in leadership and managerial positions includes teaching with the Head Start program and owning her own business.

She is the proud grandmother of eight, and enjoys being a source of support and advisor for those in her life.
